Day 20

Hello friends, and welcome to day 20 of my hospital stay. It’s hard to believe it’s been 3 weeks already. Part of me feels like I’ve been here forever, and the other part feels like it hasn’t been very long. We are down to exactly two weeks until my scheduled delivery date. I am really hoping surgery goes well and I’ll be able to meet our baby the same day they are born.

I didn’t write yesterday. It was super gloomy and rainy here all day, and when the weather is like that it just makes me super unmotivated and not want to do anything, so I didn’t go downstairs to write yesterday. But, I do have some updates for you guys! So remember how I told you I was going to have dinner with my neighbor the other day, the one that’s going to take pictures? Well we did that and it was very nice. :) Her name is Rachel, and I learned that this is her first baby, so that sucks for her that she’s experiencing all these complications with their first baby. Her diagnosis is slightly different than mine, but for privacy reasons, I won’t delve into her story too much. She lives in this area though so thankfully her husband is able to come visit her pretty frequently, along with other friends. She also told me that the hospital allows pets as visitors! Her husband brought their dog in to visit them the other day and I thought that was so sweet. Now y’all know I don’t like dogs, and I don’t think any of our cats would appreciate being dragged here, but it’s nice that it’s an option. I would love to see Nico, but I think he would just be a scaredy cat and hide. Lol. I feel like Pluto might be the only one who would be okay. She’s our eldest and boss cat. Lol.

Unfortunately, I think we’re probably going to have to have my IVs redone at some point. They both get flushed twice/day and one of my nurses yesterday told me they’re flushing slower, so it might be time soon. I am hoping to wait until past the weekend at least, as I don’t think the vascular specialists are in on the weekend, and I definitely want them doing it so I can avoid getting poked a whole bunch of times, and/or having one in a painful spot, like my hand. Normally needles don’t really bother me, but after getting stuck six or seven times trying to get those first two put in, I’m kind of traumatized. Lol.

I feel like earlier I had a topic I wanted to write about today, but of course now it escapes me. I finally finished watching Gossip Girl the other day. I’ve seen it before so I knew how it ended. It was just one of those series’ that I wanted to watch again to see if I still liked it. (I did.) After rewatching a few others, I discovered they’re not as good as I remember. Lol. Sadly, Pretty Little Liars is one of them, (which, if you didn’t know, is where I got the inspiration for Ezra’s name.) I remember hating the finale the first time, but that is a series I won’t be watching again, along with One Tree Hill. (Don’t hate me Brittni!). That one was soooo bad. Lol. The plot was just awful, the acting wasn't great, the storyline was weird. Last night I started watching the last season of You, which seemed appropriate after finishing Gossip Girl. lol. Don’t worry, I won’t put any spoilers in here. So far, so good. I’m two episodes in. I’m not sure what I’ll watch next after I finish You, but there are a couple Netflix series that have piqued my interest.

It’s not really an update, but I do have a little bit of a funny story for you. Yesterday I had my weekly ultrasound, and this baby has had their feet up above their head at almost every ultrasound we’ve had. Lol. This time, they even had both feet above and were criss crossed! They would not move them the entire time, so we weren’t able to get a good profile pic, but they did get the hiccups while I was there, which is good, because that counts as baby practicing their breathing. Next Thurs I will have my next growth ultrasound to make sure baby is growing as they are supposed to. If you don’t mind, please pray about that, because if baby isn’t growing adequately, they will likely have to be delivered sooner than May 16, which is obviously not what we want.

Oh! I know my other short story I was going to tell you guys. So yesterday, like I said, I didn’t go downstairs and write, but at some point I built up enough motivation to ask Rachel if she wanted to walk downstairs and grab Starbucks while we ventured around for a little bit. So we did that, and even walked over to one of the bridges that goes to another part of the hospital. (I don’t even know which one, tbh.) But anyway, some lady pushing a baby in a stroller comes up behind us and is like, “Are you guys admitted?” So we said yes. And she told us that she was up on the floor we’re on for several weeks, and she had her baby when she was 33 weeks. He spent 31 days in the NICU and is now 12 weeks old. She just stopped us to let us know that while it’s not over after we deliver, the NICU team is absolutely wonderful and this will all eventually seem like a short blip in time, and we will get to take our babies home. I thought that was really sweet of her both to notice that the two of us were likely up on the same floor she spent a lot of time on, and to provide us those words of encouragement.  It’s little things like that that get me through the day!

I think I better log off for today though. My laptop is yelling at me for low battery. But other exciting news, Grandma Jo is coming to visit me today, and is bringing me dinner. 🥰 (For those of you that don’t know, Grandma Jo is not actually related to me in any way, but we became friends when we were taking ASL classes together at LCC and she dubbed herself that after I had Emmett. 😙) I’m pretty excited to see her, as we don’t get to see each other much cuz she lives in this area. And then Chris and Ezra will be coming tomorrow, which is always awesome. Bummed I won’t get to see Emmett & Grace until next weekend, but at least I can FaceTime with them during the week, after Chris picks them up on Sunday. That’s all for now friends. I probably won’t write tomorrow since Chris and Ezra will be here a good chunk of the day, but I’ll likely be back at it on Sunday. As always, remember, Jesus loves you!
