Day 23
Hello friends! Today marks the 23rd day I’ve been admitted to the hospital. I get asked a lot if I’m going stir crazy or anything yet. Surprisingly, the answer is no! Since I’ve gotten into the habit of a routine and typically venture out of my room at least once/day, it’s not so bad. I even have the freedom to go outside if I please, so that’s really nice. I think it also helps that I made friends with my neighbor. We usually chat or hang out for a little bit everyday too, so I enjoy that. Misery loves company. 😆 Not that I’m miserable, because I’m really not. So don’t go feeling bad for me. Lol.
Anway, I know I didn’t write all weekend so let’s play some catch up. There was a lot going on on Saturday! Chris had an appt at 10:00 in Battle Creek to go sign all the paperwork for our new van. We made sure he had all the docs, which included the title, and everything he needed before driving up there, as it’s about an hour and 15 min drive from our home. What we both failed to think about is that the title for my Dodge Caravan was strictly in my name, meaning I had to be the one to sign it off to the dealership. So that’s fiasco number one. The second and much bigger one, was even though I had notified our bank about the down payment we were intending to make on the new vehicle and confirmed it could be done so using our debit card, we still ran into a problem. The dealership was only able to run a card for a much lesser amount that we wanted to put down. I had actually had Chris look for the checkbook the night before, for this exact reason, but he was unable to find it. (We rarely use our checkbook and it wasn’t in the few places I thought it would be.) My next thought was that he could go to our bank and go get a cashier’s check. Well, that would’ve been a good idea, but the closest one was 45 mins from the dealership. 🫠 Then I thought, maybe we could wire the funds to the dealership, but I should’ve realized that it was the weekend, and no wires can be done until Monday. So Chris’s only choice was to drive 45 mins back the way he came and go get a cashier’s check. Mind you, he had Ezra in tow the entire time. I felt so bad. He was already doing so much work for me to get this van, and it was just going downhill quickly. However, the dealership was extremely kind and lenient, as they allowed Chris to drive the new van to go get the check, and they didn’t even make any employees go with him to verify the funds. They were also aware that I am in the hospital and not close to home, so I couldn’t sign the title. They allied Chris to bring the title to me to sign, and then have him mail it to them ASAP. Y’all, they did not have to do any of this. They were extremely kind and forgiving, and pulled every lever they could to help us out. We are both extremely grateful. So while getting the van took much longer than anticipated, he was at least able to get it done and then drive through to come see me that day. It unfortunately made for a shorter visit, but I’m still thankful I got to spend a few hours with him and Ezra, and I was even able to walk down to the parking lot and go check it out. I obviously couldn’t drive it anywhere, but I got to sit in it and look around and test out some of the features, so that was pretty nice at least. Chris actually called me on his drive over and kept telling me about all the cool features he was noticing as he was driving. Lol. Ezra had a blast making a giant mess with the bag of Mega Blocks in my room. Lol. We also got him an Italian ice again, but he didn’t eat as much of this one. Probably because he filled up on french fries at lunch beforehand. Lol. I am pretty sure french fries are Ezra’s favorite food, but, I can’t say that I blame him because fries are my kryptonite, except if they’re mushy. I require my fries to be nice and crispy! I think they ended up heading home around 6:30, that way Ezra didn’t just nap in the car and then stay up too late. I also had Grandma Jo visit me on Friday, and she brought me Mediterranean food for dinner, so that was awesome! She also stayed for a few hours and we just caught up, which was really nice. Very much overdue! My friend/coworker, Kylee, plans to come visit me either tomorrow or Weds and bring me dinner, so I’m very excited for that as well! If you remember, Kylee is the one that I got a tattoo with the first time we met. Lol. And fb memories helped remind me that that was actually just one year ago, as of yesterday! So crazy because it seems like it was so long ago. Sunday was overly uneventful, other than Rachel & I, (my neighbor), having lunch together. Although, on Saturday she had her baby shower and some of her family members brought her some of her gifts to open, as well as some decorations and whatnot. She gave me 3 flower shaped balloons, (that way when the kids come to visit this weekend there’s no fighting over them, lol), as well as a cute little succulent! We’ll see if I can keep it alive. Lol.
Today was a day I knew was coming, but I’ve been dreading the entire time…new IV day. While the two I had were still functioning properly, the sites were starting to get red and irritated, so my nurse felt it was best to get new ones placed so I didn’t get an infection. Thankfully, since it’s during the day and during the week, the vascular specialists were in and they came up and placed my new IVs with the use of an ultrasound machine, so that was really helpful. I only had to get poked the two times for the two IVs, and hopefully these will last me the rest of my admission. It was also funny, because on the tech’s name badge where it would normally have a headshot of her, was a picture of Dwight in his Meredith wig. 😂 I told her I loved it. She said I would be surprised how many people think that is actually her. I said “They’re obviously not true fans.” Lol. If you don’t get it, then you’re not a true fan either. ;) After she got the IVs placed I ate my lunch, and texted Rachel to see if she wanted to venture down to the library with me and do some work, reading, writing, etc. She accepted so that’s where we are. Lol. We also have plans to get some ice cream on our way back up, so I’m pretty excited for that. I’ve only gotten it the one time with Melissa so far, so I’m interested to see what else they have and what I can try. We might even do some pictures later today, as the day is shaping up to be pretty nice, unlike we originally thought, since the forecast said rain. Live update for you: we just got our photo taken with R2D2, a storm trooper, and Darth Vader! They’re walking around the children’s hospital today, but were getting set up in the library, so we were fortunate enough to catch them before they headed out. I will add the photos to my fb later for you all to enjoy.
I’ve been sufficiently distracted so I think I’m going to wrap up for today. I hope you all enjoyed today’s entry, and as always, Jesus loves you! <3
